I guess this is a few weeks late, but I was a little packed the first week of September and couldn’t do this. So now that I finally got down to sitting on the keyboard, I couldn’t help but traverse down memory lane. School days have given me some of the best moments of my life and they still manage to bring a smile to my face. As I ran through those memories I found that some memories just can’t be forgotten. And so I decided to thank those teachers who made these moments possible.
Now all of the moments that follow aren’t necessarily my best moments in school. They probably sound like the diary of an “outstanding” student ( and I mean the one who is always just outside the classroom door) . But and this is the Golden rule you must promise to follow before you read any further – “Thou shall not judge Robin on the basis of what follows here”.
I mean seriously, I was an OK student I think. And just because I haven’t mentioned all my teachers, doesn’t mean that the others don’t come to mind. (Also the ones I mentioned, “Please pardon me for getting your spellings wrong. “) Or that I am not thankful to them. I would like to state it for the record
“DEAR TEACHERS OF ST. JOSEPH’S BOYS HIGH SCHOOL KHIRKEE,
WE CAN’T SAY THIS ENOUGH (AND WE PROBABLY DON’T 😦 ),
BUT HERE I SAY IT ONCE AGAIN,
‘THANK YOU FOR BEING THERE, FOR EACH ONE OF US’.
And now for those award-winning moments that came to my mind ( in the last 20 minutes), THANK YOU
- Mrs Shirley – for slapping me so hard that my lips got cut. The memory of my mom coming to school and scolding you and the principal (and of course, watching you say sorry :p ) reminds me what an awesome mom I have.
- Mrs Philu – For having been such a fantastic teacher and for never beating any of us (consistently ignoring huge temptations to use the stick). Third Standard was easily my favorite year in school.
- Mrs Rosario – For being such a sport and not having me thrown out for reading comics in your class. That was real cool of you.
- Mrs Sequeira – For teaching English, Geography and History the way you do. I skip economics and civics from the list because some things are just too boring. ( Guess that also proves you aren’t super Human :), Just kidding) Oh and lest I forget ,you actually corrected my 9 page essay “How I spent My Diwali Vacation”. Must have bored you to death, but you still read it 🙂
- Mrs Simmi – For never hitting me with one of your flying dusters ( or chalk). And what an aim!! To watch that duster sail past my nose and hit somebody else in the chest. Deadly.
- Mrs Khanna – For teaching science in that inimitable style of yours. Great job Ma’am. ( Though I wish you didn’t give us impositions so much. )
- Mrs Jasmeet – For teaching us to eat with a fork and spoon. Now that was one fun and thoroughly satisfying class.
- Mr Doke – For hitting the entire class with a cricket bat and yelling alternatively ” ye marra chakka”, “ye gaya chowka”. I went for a boundary ( Thank God.) It’s still one of our favorite anecdotes.
- Mr Ghatkul – for letting us play football, whenever we sang happy birthday as you walked into class. Guess we did that at least thrice a year 🙂
- Mr Percy – For giving all interested guys in the class a chance to sing in the choir during the assembly. By far the school’s worst assembly in years, but we, the class of 7Th C loved it.
- Miss Lily – For letting me use the school library in the vacations. It made many a boring afternoon pass away in no time.
- Mr Pinto- For presiding over the start of my 3 year reign in the English Exam. There came a time, when I could top in that subject with minimum study.
- Mrs Chattelier – For teaching English like nobody else could. And your Grammar Rules…CCC, PANT and of course ” Who is ABE OSSY ?” . ( Guess I have forgotten, most of it. But you would realize that if you read this blog anyway 😛 )
- Mrs Waalia – For smiling and asking ” break mai nahi khaya kya ?”, when you caught us eating biryani in class. (On the first bench too )
- Mrs Janardhan – For slapping me 6 times on the trot. ( Must be really good at maths. I could actually count your slaps in the middle of all the pain and embarrassment) Amazing Teacher that you were , I owe it to you for showing confidence in me and letting me lead the inter house quiz team. WE WON ( and not that I am boasting, but I did get a lot of the questions right) That was my very own “Underdog wins the day ” moment. I still cherish every minute of that victory.
- Mr Boodle: Awesome style sir. What command you had. Single handedly ensuring the school does not turn into a “machhi-market”. You were the ultimate disciplinarian. No doubts about it.
- Father Sorus: For giving us a bag full of funny incidents to remember you by.
Oh for those days again…
Awesome read again Rob! I don’t have half the memories from my own school like you outlined it here.
haha Thanks.
Dude, bet you have memories of time spent outside Dixy 😀
